I’ve been unwell this past week and, as a result, haven’t been able to get everything done that I needed to, and, as a result of that, have been irritated as fuck.
I wasn’t sure what I would share with you good people today, as I’ve had to concentrate this afternoon on laying out plans for July. It was one of those times when I needed quiet, or as much as I would get living in the middle of a town with a population of 34,760.
Anyway. I headed to YouTube to see if there would be anything new to gorge on but got sidetracked by a new upload from Talasbuan – one of the best YouTube channels going. After a few mesmerizing minutes in the forests of Jämtland, I remembered I discovered Sounding Body the other day, and had been meaning to put them up as an offering.
Sounding Body is Bethan and Katya from Wales and what they’re making is pure magick. Their album Moor ‘was birthed in two days. Written and recorded in one day and edited on the second. It is a culmination of over a year of improvisation and exploration, delving deep into the limitless power of the voice.’ It’s wyrd and gorgeous, influential and immersive, diverse and impossible to slip neatly into a category, though on Bandcamp it’s been tagged with experimental, drone, shamanic and ritual, among others. To say the album was created in two days it’s a true triumph. I love the songs Warrior, Sad Song and Grief in particular.
